Eating Healthy QA: How To Start Buying Locally Produced Food (For A Busy Mom)?
08/08/2012 | 12:45 PM
Q:
I’m a suburban mom without tons of time. I’m used to one stop grocery shopping at the giant supermarket. I’d like to try and start buying more fresh food locally but it feels like a pipe dream. What are some good first steps to get me started?
A:
Schedule the time to go to your farmers market and make it a family outing. Farmers markets are the ultimate way to build community, start and maintain healthy eating habits and get the freshest produce. Bring your kids, try the different samples of fruits and vegetables and invite your children to choose one or two items to make a meal with. Once it becomes a wonderful habit in your life, it won’t seem like a chore to go, but a joy you won’t want to miss out on.
