PETA wants you to be chicken wing free for Superbowl 2012. The animal rights organization has created billboards that will be located in the cities of the competing teams, The New York Giants and the New England Patriots, and in Indianapolis, home to Superbowl XLVI.

A media release from PETA says "It's estimated that some 600 million chickens are killed for the wings consumed just during the Super Bowl. Yikes! And that's after the abuse they all suffered through on factory farms. Not only is this wing-eating obsession cruel, it also shows a lack of imagination. After all, there are so many mouth-watering alternatives to the old same-old same-old"

PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman says, "Whether you're tailgating before the game or watching from the comfort of your living room, faux wings are a far healthier and kinder way to celebrate Super Bowl Sunday." Faux chicken from brands such as Gardein, Morningstar Farms, and Boca is full of flavor and packed with protein but contains none of the saturated animal fats or cholesterol found in birds' wings.
