I am 52 and I was diagnosed 10 years ago with hypothyroidism, then thyrotoxicosis, then hashimotos disease, and finally Graves Disease. I went to an endocrinologist for 2 years, played with the different synthetic meds and at 5'1 my highest weight was 228. Finally he decided that the only thing to do was to kill my thyroid off with the "Nuclear Cocktail.” I so wish I had known then what I know now! I most certainly wouldn't have had it nuked! I hung right around that weight for 2 more years. Then I heard about Armour Thyroid. My doctor told me to find a doctor in my area that would prescribe it and and he would give me the consult. So I found one, got it, took it, and over the first 2 months my body responded WONDERFULLY! I dropped 40 lbs without even trying. Nobody has ever given me ANY information or guidance as to what kind of a diet I should be following with NO thyroid! I am now suffering with high cholesterol. In fact, my last checkup with labs 1 month ago showed me in the "Widow Makers Syndrome" category. That's what my doctor called it. I refuse to take prescription drugs and I work at a health foods store and get a wonderful discount on supplements. So I am taking, per my doctor, nattokinase, fish oil, resveratrol, CoQ10 400 mg, and am watching my diet carefully. I also suffer with fluid retention. Nobody can tell me what that is from. I've had urine testing, heart scans, stress tests, and the only thing they can tell me is that this problem is from not having a thyroid. There just has to be some reason, something missing, SOMETHING causing this problem. It's miserable. I take fluid pills as needed to relieve the swelling, but I will still gain 12 lbs in a day or two. I even look at the word "SODIUM" and I bloat! Can you help me figure out what is going on? Any words of advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! Jayme

Your fluid retention may be a symptom of a disorder other than your lack of thyroid--it could be a heart or kidney problem. Widow Makers Syndrome includes normal LDL cholesterol and high LP(a) (lipoprotein(a)) levels. High levels of LP(a) can increase the risk of heart disease. Please consult...
