Healing QA: Natural Foods That Boost Energy?

Q:
What foods can boost my energy level?
A:
Believe it or not, the best food you can eat to boost your energy level is the non-food kind. Really, one of the biggest causes of low energy in our culture is the large and frequent meals we put into our bodies. When we eat more than what we need, we give our digestive system extra work to do. Since the bodily resources needed to digest extra food needs to come from somewhere, the digestive system borrows those resources from other systems of the body like the immune system and the circulatory system. With fewer resources to sustain our body’s homeostasis, low energy as well as other symptoms are the result. I therefore often recommend to my clients that they eat smaller meals less frequently to get their energy level up.
With that said, it is helpful to maintain a vegetarian diet of fruits and vegetables bought from the local farmer’s market, ghee, natural oils like olive and sesame oil, white basmati rice, legumes, and natural sweeteners like maple syrup and honey. If you stick to the natural food groups, you will see your energy skyrocket. Your need to eat a lot will go away, too.
