Q:

Is there a natural way to get rid of my pet's fleas?

A:

Tackling fleas is a tough job because you not only have to rid your pet of them, but also your living space. Once you have fleas, it takes a good effort to oust them. But you can use natural, non-toxic solutions to get the job done. Herbal shampoos with essential oils such as lavender, geranium, and eucalyptus can be effective as can citrus peel extract (available in health food stores). To rid your carpets of fleas, sprinkle borax on the rugs and let it sit for several hours (keep dogs and kids out) before vacuuming it up. For prevention, garlic helps deter fleas as does yeast and edible tablets for pets are available.
