Follow these tips to avoid dry skin during the change of season.
- Self-Massage. Before you bathe, give yourself an Ayurvedic massage (Abhyanga), with sesame or almond oil.
- Smart Baths. Avoid hot baths, and don’t soak for too long. Limit your bath time to about 15 minutes, and use warm water and mild soaps. Avoid rubbing yourself dry with a towel. Pat instead.
- Moisturize. Moisturize your whole body every day, and don’t neglect your feet.
- Dress warmly. Avoid exposure to drying cold winds. Wear hats, scarves, gloves and a warm jacket.
- Diet. High water-content fruits and vegetables are great for your skin. Zucchini, winter squash, tender asparagus, tender greens, carrots, berries, cooked apples and sweet grapes are especially good.
- Hydrate. Drink lots of warm water throughout the day. Or, if you prefer, decaffeinated tea.
- Humidity. Try to maintain a comfortable level of humidity in your home or office. Use a humidifier as needed.
