As the days get shorter and the nights get colder, we all run the risk of becoming grumpy shut-ins. Follow these simple guidelines to boost your energy and improve your mood.
•Exercise: Winter doesn’t have to get in the way of your exercise routine. Work out with a yoga video, stomp through the snow, join a gym. You need your endorphins now more than ever.
•Socialize: Being around family, friends and neighbors can help to brighten your mood. Even if you don’t have time for a big break, you can make a phone call, send a postcard, or meet for tea!
•Sleep well: Aim for 7-8 hours each night, and try to keep your bedtime and waking time consistent.
•Pro-activate! Plan fun activities in advance so you have good events to look forward to: A spa day, a massage, a winter hike, a visit with an old friend, anything that brings you joy.
•Sunbathe: Lack of sunlight can cause many people to become depressed. Try to spend a little more time outdoors. Keep your shades up during the day to let more light in.
