Q:
My pediatrician told me my daughter should be off her binky by 3 years-old and I am dreading this. Do you have any suggestions on how to make this process as painless as possible for both of us?
A:
As with many parenting issues, we tend to follow the child's lead. Each child is a unique individual and setting age limits for soothing behaviors may not be appropriate for that particular child. A pacifier will be given up when the child is ready and forcing the issue may create more stress and upset than giving your child the space to decide when she has had enough. Do be sure you are using a BPA-free pacifier as well!
