Q:
My husband thinks it's okay for our kids to watch tv as long as it's educational. But even wiht a show like Sesame Street, isn't there such a thing as too much tv?
A:
There certainly is a thing as too much television, especially for very young children. The American Academy of Pediatrics does not recommend any television viewing for children under the age of two for a variety of developmental and health reasons. Even for children older than 2 years of age, television viewing tends to reduce their time in physical activity, as well as in creative and imaginative play, both fundamental for all children. The battle certainly gets harder as they get older, but the more you can engage your children in ways that do not involve screen time, the better!
