Q:
Should I introduce my baby to vegetables first, so he won't develop a sweet tooth?
A:
Actually, the idea that feeding a baby fruit first will leave him/her with a sweet tooth is generally accepted as a myth. Many babies easily enjoy both fruits and vegetables early on. Sweet potatoes, peas, carrots, squash, bananas, peaches, and apples all make wonderful, simple baby foods. I do believe that feeding the whole, fresh food without added ingredients is best for helping children to develop a taste for the food itself and not added flavorings. I would also suggest being sure to buy organic whenever possible to limit your baby's exposure to pesticides and genetically modified foods (GMOs).
