Seeing Is NOT Believing!

03/01/2010 by Kurt Chacon

Just like everyone else, I see the ads on TV for these extreme workouts that promise amazing results in a short period of time at HOME. My take? First, ask yourself whether or not the before and after pictures shown in the ad tell the whole story. Do you think it’s possible that the person in question may have been in great shape BEFORE using that “system”, got fat (on purpose—just to sell more product?) and then used the system to get BACK to where they were before. In other words, the “fat” picture was the exception, not the rule, of their fitness existence. Perhaps the ad is telling the truth—but a rehearsed and incomplete version. It is easier to get back to a place you have been before than it is to go where you have never gone before. Another take: from what I have seen, a lot of the bodies in the ad look the same—almost identical in some cases. I have found, in my real life experience, that is a rare level of uniformity. And finally, if you actually do the workouts provided by the system, you WILL get results. Why? Because SOME plan is better than NO plan. The system might not be perfect for you, but it is better than what you are doing now. You might not get the results shown, but you will get results!

Yeah, there's some fishy stuff going on there, for sure. As a former marketing person, I'll tell you what I'd do if I was selling one of these products, semi-honestly. I'd find a bunch of overweight people (the easy part!), then I'd give them every resource possible to lose weight, including but certainly not limited to "the product." And I'd offer monetary rewards for the amount of weight lost in a given period of time. Out of 100 people, chances are at least one or two will lose a bunch of weight. You got your before and after pics, bingo, you're off to commercial production.
