Addiction: A Conventional View

Hosted by Dr. Steven Rosenblatt

Dr. Steven Rosenblatt
Addiction can be defined as a compulsion to continue indulging in a substance or behavior despite its negative effects. Some addictions are connected to the narcotic or pleasurable calm of drugs like heroin, marijuana, or prescription tranquilizers. Other addictions may be connected to the adrenalin or endorphin runs we associate with gambling, or sex. In either case, what begins as casual use can soon lead to destructive patterns, which the addict may be unwilling or unable to stop. With determination, support and a treatment program, however, most addicts will see a light at the end of the tunnel.
