Children With Asthma
Dr. Goldberg discusses asthma, which currently afflicts up to one in four urban children. This is most likely as a result of pollution and allergens in the cities, combined with other factors such as genetic predisposition. Children's airwaves are smaller than those of adults, and so an attack will be more dramatic, and will require more dramatic care. On the other hand, children respond more quickly to treatment than adults do. Dr. DeOrio adds that doctors should treat the whole family, paying attention to the parents' stress, and treating them for that stress if possible.
